Brief History of Ireland
Ireland is a very beautiful place in Europe. It is surrounded by water and many tiny islands. The view from many areas in Ireland is breath taking, so it has become a very common tourist attraction. People from all over the world come there to see the beauty it has to offer for themselves. The pictures of it are nice, but they don’t do enough justice once you have seen it in person.
It is believed the first people to settle in Ireland were there around 8,000 BC. They were hunters who followed the animals. They originally came from both Great Britain and Europe. Some critics wonder how they could do so with the many islands surrounded by water. However, there is evidence that they made bridges they could go across to get where they needed to in order to find food for survival.
Around 2,500 BC the Bronze Age was emerging in Ireland. During this period of time bronze was used to create sculptures, to make weapons, and to develop tools that made life easier. The Iron Age was introduced by the Celtics These two developments helped to allow the people in Ireland to have a more civilized culture than before.
Yet their quest for making a quality life for themselves wasn’t without incident. Under the rule of a monarchy, the Kings continued to get richer while the peasants struggled. They had to work hard and barely got by. They weren’t owners of the land they lived or worked on. They had high taxes and rent to pay just to be able to continue using those entities.
As Ireland was invaded by Vikings, so much of what these people had was destroyed or taken. There was also the quest to convert them to Catholic religions instead of what they had known before. Being forced to follow a certain religion isn’t something anyone is interested in.
Hard times were definitely upon the people of Ireland. They had to deal with a lack of food that wiped out a significant amount of their population. They had to decide if they were going to stay and let that be their fate or not. They also had to decide if they were going to continue being ruled unfairly or strive to make differences for themselves and future generations.
The Irish Civil War continued until 1923, but along with it came the independence of Ireland in late 1922. This was a huge success that definitely played a significant role in the way the country is operating today. It is no longer a monarchy as it was for centuries. Instead it is a monarchy and it is very prosperous at this time.
